PTA To Provide 3g/4G in Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir
Islamabad: Federal government of Pakistan has decided to provide 3G and 4G internet services in Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Out of four 3G/4G spectrum , two 4G bands will be auctioned by the end of this month. While two bands of 3G will be provided to SCO without any auction. According to reliable sources federal government of Pakistan has taken final decision to provide 3G.4G serivice in Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. In this regard two 4G bands will be auctioned within a month. The spectrum will be opened for all companies.
Two bands of 3G will be provided to Special Communication Organization without any auction however the bidding price of SCO will be provided by finance division. According to media sources the ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan had sent a summary to Prime Minister of Pakistan to provide 3g/4G internet service in Gilgit Baltistan and AJK. PM accepted this and ordered PTA to provide 3G/4G in Gilgit Baltistan. However it is decided to open spectrum for all companies.
For this a committee to be setup to prepare rules and regulations of 3G auction in GB and AJK. Prior to this a committee was set up to provide 3G/4G in AJK and GB. Members from PTA and Ministry of Law are part of this committee. It should be noted that internet service and telecommunication is provided by SCO . SCO is a army controlled organization. Although all companies participated in 2014 3G/4G auction in Pakistan were allowed to provide 3G in whole country except Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. It was due to disputed status of GB and AJK 3G/4G spectrum is auctioned separately for Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
Special Communication Organization already tested 3G service in many cities and towns of Gilgit Baltistan.
